Intro to Alpine Cycling Week
Our Intro to Alpine Cycling weeks are for people who would like to combine some seriously stunning cycling with an exploration of French summer alpine culture. Whether you are new to cycling or would prefer a more leisurely holiday which doesn’t involve conquering a col every day, this week may be for you. You decide on the level of challenge you are willing to try and our team will be there with coaching tips and the trusty support vehicle providing as much help as you need. If you haven’t used a road bike before you can rent a bike from us and we’ll give you all the tips you need to get started. If you’d prefer to bring your bike out, whatever style you prefer, that’s fine too. We can also help you to arrange rental of an electric bike, which can be a really fantastic way to see the mountains if you’re new to cycling. Our team will help you unpack your bike and if you need some more expertise there’s a great English speaking bike shop called Torico just around the corner.
When you’re not cycling there will be plenty of time to relax and explore the area. As the snow melts away it uncovers a hidden world of waterfalls, French farmhouses, artisan crafts & lush pastures. Cattle graze among wild flowers abuzz with bees, local producers turn out amazing cheeses and honey, while pretty market towns burst into life. We’ll take you to alpine lakes where you can swim in crystal clear water and enjoy a picnic on the grassy banks, explore markets and relax with coffee and croissants or a glass of wine in the charming cafes.
What are the rides like?
From our base in Morzine we have so many routes to choose from. Rides can take in any number of mountain passes and we also have a great selection of rides into valleys with beautiful cafes and stunning picnic locations.
On the first day when everyone has built their bikes we tend to take people out for a short ride to help you get your bearings, make sure your bike is set up properly and show you where things are – the outdoor 50m pool and spa complex, a beautiful lake for swimming, kayaking, SUP or relaxing by (we may have a BBQ here during the week as its such a nice spot) and then as we cycle around the town we’ll show you where the best patisserie is, a fabulous wine bar/cafe overlooking the main square, the tourist information office, best bike shop and of course the best cafe in town. This is a short route with a little bit of climbing to test the legs.
If you’re keen for a good climb and one that’s in the Tour de France 2018, we can ride to lake Annecy over Col de la Colombiere. We can either start the ride at the chalet or a little closer to the main climb and if you haven’t been to lake Annecy you’re going to love it. Its one of the clearest lakes in France and a beautiful place for a picnic and a swim. Don’t worry, we’ll drive back from the lake!
Back at the chalet we are there to ensure your holiday is wonderful. The chalet is well equipped with a large lounge, reading areas and garden loungers. And we have a wonderful chef, who will be cooking up a feast while you sit back and enjoy the mountains.
